  • Hello everyone.  Von Marie here and I’m so excited to be on the blog today.  I love this weeks challenge April Showers May Flowers #IB385 and Card Sketch.

Here’s how I was inspired: I love the colors, Umbrella theme, and Card Sketch.

    Let’s Get Started:

I chose to use a C.C. Designs stamp called Umbrella Swissie it’s a retired stamp, but is one of my favorites. I stamped her with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on white cardstock 110 pounds. I colored her in with Copic markers and OLO markers. I then fussy cut her out with my scissors leaving a white border. I also cut out some pattern paper from Lawn Fawn that looked like rain to me. I cut it like the card sketch.

I stamped a sentiment from Technique Junkies Rain sentiments stamp set that have been in my stash and are a nice quality as they are rubber stamps. I stamped onto my pattern paper with Versafine Onyx ink.  I glued my sentiment and girl to a A2 card panel 4 x 4/4 x 5 1/2 an then to a white top folding matching card base.  I used a gray Copic marker to draw ground for my girl and used a white gel pen for some white pen accents.  I like how my card came out as I probably would have never used these colors.

  • “April showers bring May flowers” is this week’s INSPIRED BY theme. I confess I had a difficult time deciding on a design this week, so I decided to take inspiration from the sketch and flowers theme.

The inspiration photo is beautiful with the flowers cascading from the creamy umbrella, and my tendency is to try to get as close to all the prompts in the challenge as possible. Not a requirement, just my little quirk.

After I finally gave myself permission to use the colors of my choosing, I decided to experiment with watercolor on book pages. It was a blast and I was surprised at how well it worked.

You may recognize the Doodle Buds stamps and dies from WPlus9 – a very popular set back in the day. After stamping onto book pages, I used Ken Oliver watercolor powders to loosely watercolor. After drying, I applied a wash of white acrylic paint in places. I backed the flowers and leaves with dark green cardstock to add thickness.

A stencil called Quilt Block by Brutus Monroe was used to create the subtle background that follows the sketch, and the flowers were added in a sort of cascade. A few splatters, black enamel dots, and a die cut sentiment using an older Hero Arts club kit completed my card.

What inspires you about this week’s challenge? The photo, the theme, the sketch, the colors? We would love to find out. I hope you’ll join the fun this week. ~MarDi

  • We must all be busy right now, not as many cards in the gallery as usual. I suspect with the nice weather we are playing outside more!

    Vicki Burdick

This is such a great take on the inspiration. Capturing the theme and the colors very well. love the touch of silver too. Congratulations Vicki!

Don’t forget to play along this week

  • This week’s inspiration photo is the perfect decor piece for any bridal or baby shower…yet it had me thinking about dessert! When I saw the beautiful florals and crystals cascading from the umbrella, I saw a cupcake!

Especially a lovely one from Papertrey Ink’s “Floral Confections” with the array of flowers and leaves in the set. To add some crystals to the mix, I embossed white cardstock with Sizzix’s “Sparkle” embossing folder by Tim Holtz, adding Stickles to some of the “dots” and a spritz of Perfect Pearls over the entire background.

The small sentiment is from “Floral Confections “ and the large sentiment from The Greetery’s “Scripted Sentiments.”

Hoping your day is full of sweet things! Thank you for stopping by!

  • There is just something about Spring that makes everything feel a little softer, a little sweeter and this card is exactly that.

For this week’s Inspired by….April showers My Flowers challenge, I created with delicate, cheerful details that make this season so special. New flowers, fresh green colors everywhere, soft pinks that just feel like sunshine after rain.

This card just makes me smile. It’s simple, a little whimsical and full of all things I love about Spring.

Thanks for joining us today and we would love to see what inspires you.

  • Hey everyone, Laurel here with my take on this week’s challenge. I really like the feminine feel to this week’s challenge and I was inspired by the colors, sketch, flowers and umbrella.

I thought the Silly Goose collection by Carta Bella worked well. Such soft pretty colors and how can you not love all the cute geese! For the scallop I used an old border punch from Stampin’ Up! Of course some stitching, I love to stitch on my cards. What is something that you incorporate most of the time?

  • This week’s Inspired By Challenge is a beautiful reminder that April showers bring May flowers!  This dreamy umbrella overflowing with cascading blooms creates a soft, romantic scene full of delicate movement and elegant detail. The hanging florals, gentle color palette, and sparkling raindrop accents bring together the perfect blend of springtime freshness and whimsical charm.

Will you be inspired by the flowing floral elements, the soft pink and berry tones, or the graceful umbrella shape? Maybe it’s the layered textures, the sense of movement, or the light and airy feel that sparks your creativity. However you interpret it, let this lovely springtime image guide your design.
