“April showers bring May flowers” is this week’s INSPIRED BY theme. I confess I had a difficult time deciding on a design this week, so I decided to take inspiration from the sketch and flowers theme.

The inspiration photo is beautiful with the flowers cascading from the creamy umbrella, and my tendency is to try to get as close to all the prompts in the challenge as possible. Not a requirement, just my little quirk.
After I finally gave myself permission to use the colors of my choosing, I decided to experiment with watercolor on book pages. It was a blast and I was surprised at how well it worked.
You may recognize the Doodle Buds stamps and dies from WPlus9 – a very popular set back in the day. After stamping onto book pages, I used Ken Oliver watercolor powders to loosely watercolor. After drying, I applied a wash of white acrylic paint in places. I backed the flowers and leaves with dark green cardstock to add thickness.
A stencil called Quilt Block by Brutus Monroe was used to create the subtle background that follows the sketch, and the flowers were added in a sort of cascade. A few splatters, black enamel dots, and a die cut sentiment using an older Hero Arts club kit completed my card.

What inspires you about this week’s challenge? The photo, the theme, the sketch, the colors? We would love to find out. I hope you’ll join the fun this week. ~MarDi
